The Omaha System Guidelines application facilitates the prompt dissemination of evidence-based interventions aimed at addressing critical health needs across diverse populations, programs, and clinical practices. The development of this resource by the Omaha System community of practice began in 2013, resulting in over 1,000 interventions documented on our website, omahasystemguidelines.org. This open-source platform was created collaboratively with healthcare providers and community stakeholders to serve as an accessible tool that offers up-to-date summaries of interventions, sourcing information, and structured coding schemas. The content will be regularly updated to reflect ongoing advancements in intervention strategies.

• In this initial release of OSGuidelines, the focus is on disease prevention and control measures. More than 90 evidence-based interventions are extensively described, citing authoritative sources such as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization. The primary objective is to foster collaborative efforts within communities to utilize best practices that improve healthcare delivery and optimize health outcomes.
• All interventions are encoded using clinical terminology standards including SNOMED CT and the Omaha System taxonomy, facilitating seamless integration within electronic health records and other digital platforms.
• The content is fully searchable via free-text queries and categorized according to role, action type, and intervention target terms.
• Additional resources include an introductory video about the Omaha System alongside links to supplementary online materials.
• The platform also incorporates user feedback mechanisms to enable communication with app developers and the Omaha System community of practice for continuous improvement.

The Omaha System represents a comprehensive ontology, taxonomy, classification system, and terminology used globally in healthcare settings for over 30 years. It is capable of describing health across environmental, psychosocial, physiological, and behavioral domains—including social determinants of health—and measures health status along a continuum that captures both strengths and challenges. Its application to care documentation produces data that offers a holistic view of individual and population health. Designed to be accessible, the Omaha System has been effectively employed in surveys, digital applications for patients and caregivers, as well as clinical documentation.
